We talk about the difference between the power of photos and videos a lot around here, and it’s not just because we do both. The truth is that so much goes into planning any wedding and you’ll want the memories of the day preserved in any and every way possible.
For more on that, check out this post, Our Vets of Wedding Videography in NJ Share 3 Reasons Why Your Video Will Be Just as Important as Your Photos, but there are also a lot of myths and misconceptions surrounding video, specifically, so our NJ wedding videographers figured they’d put their knowledge and experience to work and debunk a few of the big ones.
Myth #1: Wedding videos are either too boring or too cheesy.
When some people think of wedding videos, they still imagine the old, extremely long ones filled with boring guest interviews and flat camerawork devoid of any sense of style or originality. However, while there are absolutely still videographers making videos like that, there are also other videographers and videography companies producing some really creative stuff.
On top of that, there are all the new toys and tools to consider that didn’t used to exist or weren’t as accessible as they are now, such as sliders, steadicams, and drones. These tools all have the power to produce some truly cinematic, inspired shots, shots that are a far cry from those styleless ones mentioned above, not to mention the fact that they’re not nearly as bulky nor obtrusive as equipment like that used to be.
The point is that there are some genuinely epic wedding videos being made now that’ll make you feel like you’re watching an artistic short film or Hollywood movie. So, if you’re still subscribing to the belief that all wedding videos are boring or cheesy, then it’s time to take a look for yourself. You can start with our video gallery.
Myth #2: No one really watches their wedding video anyway.
Look, back when seemingly every single wedding video actually was boring and cheesy, couples probably didn’t go back and rewatch them much and that makes sense. They probably figured they have it to show to friends and family members who weren’t actually there on their big day, but from there, the video just collected dust on a shelf or in a closet.
But remember, these aren’t your great-grandparent’s wedding videos we’re talking about anymore, and trust us, if you find the right videographers for your celebration, then it’ll probably be difficult to stop watching your video once it’s ready, especially when you first get it.
You also need to consider occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, unfortunate deaths in the family, etc. Then there are your future children to think about, and what if you and your partner get into a spat? Watching your wedding video might help you make up, but the point is that if you get a wedding video you love, then you’ll absolutely find plenty of reasons to watch it as the years go by.
Myth #3: If you’re already getting photos, then you don’t need video.
Like mentioned at the top, we talk about the difference between pictures and videos a lot around here, and that’s because it’s a big one, but plenty of people still don’t recognize it. They figure that if they’re hiring photographers, then there’s really no need for videographers as they’ll already have all the big moments captured.
However, you need to know exactly what you’ll be missing by forgoing video. Yes, you’ll likely have all the major moments captured and if you hire a good photographers or go with multiple photographers, then you should have plenty of candid moments as well, but that’s not all that a video will give you.
Think about it, what about the sounds of the ceremony and celebration, whether it’s the readings, vows, speeches, or responses? And what about the movements of the day like the dancing and walk down the aisle? The point is that videographers bring things to the table that photographers simply do not and hiring both will ultimately only mean more moments and memories captured.
We’ve heard all the myths & misconceptions in our time in wedding videography in NJ.
The bottom line is that you shouldn’t let any longstanding myths or misconceptions about wedding videos dictate your decision on hiring videographers or not, nor should you let our debunking them do it, either. In the end, it’s up to you, but you’ll want to do your homework so that you can make the most informed decision possible. Good luck!
