It goes without saying that traditional summer weddings can be absolutely beautiful. So many couples wouldn’t choose to celebrate their big days in the summer months unless there was good reason. With summer, there are plenty of them.
However, as longtime NY & NJ wedding photographers and videographers who’ve been to our share of summer affairs, we can tell some things about summer weddings that you may not realize, and that you don’t necessarily have to take the traditional route. Read on to learn some of the secrets about summer celebrations and to making yours more unique and personal.
It tends to be the least busy of seasons.
Unless you’re eloping with just yourself and your partner, then there are probably a few people you’d like to be present on your big day. However, there are sadly times when certain in-demand guests cannot end up attending, whether it’s because of work, family issues, etc.
That’s just life. Things happen, unfortunately, but one of the best parts about weddings in the summer months is that the odds of guests not being able to attend are far lower. It could be that they’re off of school or just that they can take some time off of work.
No one’s saying that having a summer wedding ensures that every guest will be able to attend, because like mentioned above, things happen in life. It’s just that fewer things typically happen in the laid-back summer months than they do in the cooler, harsher ones.
It doesn’t have to be outdoors.
Many couples planning summer weddings just assume that it has to be set outdoors, and that makes sense. This is the summer we’re talking about, after all, so it’s perfectly reasonable to want to weave the season into the celebration as much as possible.
The thing is that you don’t actually have to head outdoors to do that. Sure, it’d make things easier in terms of decor because you could just let the natural landscape speak for itself, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t also make an indoor space feel like summer.
It just takes a little work, whether that means incorporating summer flowers and lanterns into your decor, choosing a venue with lots of large windows, etc. The point is that you don’t have to set your summer wedding outside, and the good news is that an indoor location will be far more reliable.
It’s easier to keep things cool & comfy than you may think.
The potential for unbearably hot and humid conditions is one of the main reasons that some couples decide against a summer wedding, but the truth is that there are more ways to keep guests cool and comfortable even in the summeryest conditions than you may think.
For instance, you could hand out mini fans, have them placed in convenient locations, or have larger fans placed around the space. You could use large patio umbrellas to create “cool off” zones, provide mini spray bottles with water, or have cool, damp towels available.
It’s not just the guests, either. You could also speak with vendors like your florist and baker about taking certain measures to ensure that other elements are designed to withstand the heat, but the bottom line is that there are plenty of effective options.
Use the best of summer, prepare for the worst.
If, like us, you’re located somewhere that goes through the full four seasons, then you know that each has its pros and cons. Summer is no different, and neither are summer weddings, which is why the biggest secret is incorporating all the best of summer into your celebration and none of the worst. We hope this post helps.
