If you’ve just gotten engaged then before you do anything else, you need to stop everything you’re doing and… enjoy it! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment that deserves to be acknowledged and appreciated.
Once you’ve properly celebrated the event, though, then it’s time to start spreading the word and, as longtime NJ & NYC wedding videographers and photographers, we know a thing or two about it. So, read on for a few tips.
Build some serious social buzz.
Sure, you can just come right out and tell everyone about your engagement and show off the ring in a cool pic. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that and it can be genuinely unforgettable for those with whom you’re close.
However, considering that most couples have some sort of presence on one or two, if not a few, of the various social media platforms out there now, it only makes sense to think about using them to make your announcement more fun.
For instance, you could post some cryptic photo hints, photoshop some movie posters, or make a fun video. The point is that you can treat your engagement like an upcoming blockbuster movie release and tease your “fans” leading up to it.
Have an engagement photo session!
No, we’re not just saying it because we do wedding videography and photography, we’re saying it because it’s true. If you’re not going to get clever with your own social picture posts, then enlisting the help of the pros can go a long way.
They don’t just know how to take beautiful photos—hopefully at least—but they should also know of some great spots if you don’t have any in mind, not to mention the fact that they’ll be working with higher-end equipment.
On top of all that, though, you also need to factor in the opportunity an engagement shoot gives you to work with your future wedding photographers and to get more comfortable with the whole process.
Do it… IN PERSON!
We know. It’s such a novel concept in this day and age, but that’s the whole point. People are so used to the impersonal communication style of texting and the like that many treat their engagement announcements the same way.
But this is your engagement we’re talking about here, not an invitation to meet for a drink on a Wednesday night. While impersonal communication may be perfectly appropriate for a lot of things, your engagement isn’t one of them.
So, if you can deliver the news in person, at least to your closest friends and family members, then do it. If not, whether it’s because of distance or something else, then consider options like Facetime. It’s much much more personal than a text and just as convenient.
Make it count.
The bottom line is, to many of your friends and family members, your engagement announcement is the beginning of your love story. So, try your best to make it the perfect opening chapter. We hope these tips help you do it!
