Every pair of newlyweds-to-be wants a stunning, unforgettable wedding video. That goes without saying, but there are plenty of ways to get there. That’s why finding the right people for your particular vision is so important, but one thing that many couples don’t realize is that some videos may seem stunning for a time only to then show signs of age as time goes by.
Luckily, our NY & NJ wedding videographers have been doing their thing for a while now, so they know a thing or two about how to ensure a video can withstand the test of time. So, read on for a few tricks to keeping your wedding video fresh and beautiful, forever.
Be wary of trends.
There are always new trends to consider in the wedding industry. It’s just the nature of the business because there are so many different elements and areas, whether it’s themes or cakes, decor or dresses, photography or videography, etc. However, one of the biggest mistakes newlyweds-to-be make is weaving too many trends into their celebrations.
They think it’ll make things feel fresh and modern, but make the wrong choices of trend and it could have the exact opposite effect. Think about it, what may seem funny or quirky at the moment could feel silly or gimmicky not too long from now, and it could also immediately date your video for any viewers.
Remember, the whole point of a wedding video is to preserve all the moments and memories that made your big day so special and to make it all feel timeless, not aged. So, be very careful when considering trends and try to only utilize the ones that align with your and your partner’s styles and that appear to have what it takes to withstand the test of time.
Look for signs of age.
One of the most important parts of the wedding videography and photography search process is carefully perusing the galleries of all your potential options. With other vendors, it’s all about taste, atmosphere, in-person meetings, etc., but with your videographers and photographers, it all starts with their galleries.
If you like what you see then it’s time for some phones calls and meetings, but we’re not discussing the overall importance of checking galleries today. For more on that, check out this post, What to Look for in Your Potential Wedding Videographers’ Galleries. What we’re talking about today, though, is the importance of checking for signs of age, which can be pretty obvious if you know where to look.
For instance, you may start to come across a lot of evidence of post-production filters and/or effects, which could absolutely cause your video to “age” over time. You may also see solely traditional pictures and very few examples of some more modern styles, or you could see an overuse of trends. You get the idea. Look with age in mind.
Go with the flow.
We know. When it comes to wedding days that’s always easier said than done, but when it comes to your wedding videography and keeping it young, specifically, then it’s extremely important. After all, pure creativity and spontaneity often produce some of the most timeless shots and wedding videos.
If, however, you’re constantly “directing” your videographers or you’re always posing and pretending rather than simply living in the moment, then that could ultimately date your wedding video. You’ll be robbing it of all those purely creative, spontaneous moments that tend to pack the most powerful punch.
No one’s saying that you shouldn’t share your vision for your wedding and video with your videographers as clearly as possible, because you absolutely should and for some tips on doing it, check out this post, Tips from Vets of Wedding Videography in NJ for Articulating Your Vision for Your Video. Just try to remain mindful of the potential power in allowing the creative juices to flow and the spontaneity to unfold naturally.
