It goes without saying that if you’re not looking or, perhaps more importantly, not feeling your best on your wedding day, then it will show in your photos. So, for some tips for ensuring that you are, check out this post, 6 Wedding Day Tips to Ensure You End up with an Unforgettable Photo Album.
However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of things you can do leading up to the big day that can help to put you in the right place mentally, emotionally, and physically. There are and, luckily, we’ve been in NY & NJ wedding photography for long enough to learn all the tricks. So, read on to learn about a few of the best ones.
Practice, practice, practice.
Sounds simple enough, we know, but the truth is that to most newlyweds-to-be, their idea of practicing for their wedding photos is simply doing a little posing and smiling in the mirror and calling it a day, but you can do some more involved practicing than that. After all, this is your wedding day we’re talking about here, not a birthday party.
So, really give it some effort. Don’t just smile a few times and try to remember your best side. Try instead to truly find positions and expressions that don’t just look nice but that you’re comfortable with as well. Remember, feeling good is just as important as looking good when it comes to getting great wedding photos and you may also want to have someone actually photography you to start getting used to the process.
From there, while you should basically avoid any drastic alterations, your practice sessions should also include hair & makeup trials and test runs of any new looks, clothing, products, etc., that you’re thinking about for your big day. That way, you’ll have time to make adjustments if need be and, lastly, we cannot overstate the value of pre-wedding photo sessions with your photographers. There is truly no better practice than that.
Sleep, sleep, sleep.
Again, it sounds simple enough, right? Maybe to people who haven’t actually had to plan a wedding it does, because to those who have, sleep can be a pretty hard thing to come by leading up to the big day. The thing is that sleep also happens to be one of the keys to getting great wedding photos.
No, we’re not just talking about the night before either, although that is extremely important. We’re also talking about getting quality sleep in the days, weeks, and months before your wedding, because make no mistake, it matters. Aside from the obvious physical effects caused by a lack of sleep, there are also the effects it can have on your mental and emotional state.
Again, all those things will show in your pictures, and they won’t look good. So, whether it’s as simple as making a point of getting to bed earlier or you have to take some more drastic measures to improve your sleeping habits leading up to your wedding day, do yourself a favor and make it happen.
Plan as best you can.
One of the biggest keys to great wedding photos is simply letting loose and living in the moment. You can practice all the poses and expressions you want, but nothing will beat the genuine article. However, relaxing and getting comfortable enough to live in the moment can be more of a challenge than you think.
For some tips, check out this post, Tips for Loosening up for Your Wedding Photos, but one of the best ways to put yourself in a good position to live in the moment is to plan as best as you possibly can for your big day. That doesn’t just mean preparing for every possible scenario either, but also planning a celebration that makes you feel happy and at home.
The point is that the last thing you want is to add any more concerns or anxiety to the equation on your wedding day. So, do everything you can during the planning process so that you can simply relax and enjoy the fruits of all your labor once the big day arrives. Trust us, that’ll make for much better pictures.
