These’s no doubt that the photographers you choose for your big day will play a huge role in the kinds of pictures you get, but they’re not the only ones. After all, this is your wedding day we’re talking about here and, at the end of the day, you and your partner will be the stars of the show.
That’s why it’s so important to be able to loosen up and relax on camera, but we’ve been doing wedding photography in NJ for long enough to understand that not everyone is so comfortable with the process. So, we thought we’d pass along a few tricks we’ve picked up along the way so that you can look, and feel, your absolute best in your pictures.
Take your time.
For those unfamiliar with the photography process in general, it can take some getting used to. That’s why we always recommend scheduling an engagement session with your wedding photographers so that you get a chance to get to know them better and to get more comfortable with the process of getting your picture taken.
However, not everyone can nor wants to schedule an e-shoot and even those couples that do are often still a little less comfortable with the process again by the time their big day rolls around. That’s why it’s always a good idea to build plenty of extra time into your wedding day timeline for settling into your photo sessions.
Trust us, the last thing you want to do is add to the stress and discomfort of the situation by putting yourselves in a position where you have to rush. Make sure you leave yourselves enough time not just for the pictures themselves, but for also getting more comfortable, working out the jitters and, hopefully, getting into a nice rhythm and groove.
Share the experience with your partner.
Another one of the best ways to relax while your picture is being taken is to truly share the experience with your partner. Yes, you can talk about the photography process itself and the shots being taken, but make no mistake, that’s not all you can talk about. You can also just treat is as a rare opportunity to share your wedding day experience with each other.
Think about it, wedding days can get pretty hectic at times, so a photo session could be the perfect time to speak with each other about your experiences of the day so far. Don’t feel that you need to focus solely on the photo session. In fact, it’s often better if you don’t and just allow the conversation to flow naturally.
But taking this approach isn’t just about sneaking in a chit-chat. It’s also about you and your partner getting comfortable with the photography process. With any luck, you may get so caught up in the conversation that you forget your photographers are even there, and that will probably lead to some great pictures!
Focus on feeling great rather than looking perfect.
We all want to look our best in our wedding photos. It’s only natural and most people do. However, if all you’re thinking about when your picture is being taken on your big day is trying to look absolutely perfect, then chances are that you won’t. In fact, the trying part will probably end up being the thing that shines brightest in your pictures, and that’s not good.
So, rather than concerning yourself over posing and looking perfect, try instead to focus on how you feel. Don’t worry about recreating that pose from that magazine you saw or about attaining the picture-perfect smile. Just trust that if you feel comfortable and happy, then that’s how you’ll look in your pictures.
And trust the decisions you’ve made up until this point. You’ve undoubtedly put a lot into looking your best on your big day and you chose your particular wedding photographers for a reason. So, let them worry about how you look in your pictures. You just concentrate on feeling relaxed and happy.
