No matter the specific style nor size of the wedding you’re planning, the process is never an entirely simple and stressless one. Whether time’s a factor, you’ve given yourself too many DIY projects, or you’re just feeling a little overwhelmed, it can be a challenge to keep your sanity, to say the least.
Luckily, when you’ve been doing wedding videography in NJ for as long as we have, you meet all kinds of couples, some who are falling apart at the seams, yet plenty of others who have figured out ways to keep their composure. So, we thought we’d pass on a few tips that we’ve picked up along the way for staying sane during your planning phase.
1. Re-prioritize regularly.
One of the first steps toward managing wedding planning stress is giving yourself enough time to break the whole process down into more manageable chunks. That way, you’re never rushing and nothing gets shortchanged, but there’s no reason that you should only be doing that once. In fact, re-prioritizing as you go can be one of the best ways to stay cool, calm, and collected.
Whether you do it weekly or monthly, making a new list of, say, the top five tasks you need to complete regularly won’t just help to ensure that you get the things that need to get done sooner completed on time. It’ll also help to keep that overwhelming stress at bay. As long as you keep up with your smaller lists as you go, then you’ll be fine.
2. Take breaks!
Sounds simple enough, right? Well, for many newlyweds-to-be, it’s often not. Whether it’s because they didn’t leave themselves enough time, they didn’t hire a planner, they’ve left too many DIY projects to themselves, etc., so many brides and grooms-to-be don’t take enough breaks from their wedding planning and it adds up.
Trust us, we’ve been doing wedding videography in NJ for a long time and you’ll have virtually no chance of enjoying the planning process at all if you don’t step away from it at times. It’s just too relentless, and it’s especially important to try to take some serious break time in the month leading up to the big day. That way, you’ll be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it all once it arrives.
3. Don’t add too many other ingredients to your plate.
Like mentioned at the top, no matter what kind of wedding you’re planning, it’s never a totally painless process. There are just so many moving parts that it’s practically inevitable to get at least a little stressed at times. The key is to contain the stress to small surges like that, and to keep those times as few and far between as possible.
That’s why another great tip is to refrain from putting too much other, unrelated stress on your plate at the same time, whether it’s an extreme, life-altering diet or workout routine, a drastic appearance change, etc. No one’s saying that you shouldn’t try to look and feel your absolute best on your big day, but just that you don’t want to add too much to an already full plate.
4. Take a step back to see the big picture.
This may be the best tip of them all. When things get tense and the stress levels start to rise, try to take a step back once in a while and remember what it’s all about. You’re planning one of the biggest events of your lives, and all the stress and complications are small compared to the weight of that.
Plan date nights, set time aside to talk about non-wedding stuff, and try to enjoy it. Don’t let yourself get bogged down by minor issues and always try to remember all the moments that brought you two here, your journey together, your love story. In the end, that’s what it’s all about, and that’s why it’s all worth it.
Our NJ wedding videographers know how much stress can affect the celebration.
The bottom line is, while every wedding planning process presents its own set of challenges, if you let it get the best of you, then it can absolutely have negative effects on your big day. Make no mistake, if you lose your cool and start making bad decisions, rushing to the finish line just to get it all over with, then you’ll likely be disappointed with the results.
So, do what you can to keep your cool. We know, it’s not always easy, but remember, it’s worth it. We hope these tips help. Good luck!
