We talk a lot around here about the importance of examining any wedding trend very carefully before deciding to weave it into your celebration, and that’s because you should. After all, while some trends emerge and prove to have what it takes to withstand the test of time, there are plenty that come and go instead.
Luckily, our NY & NJ wedding videographers have been doing their thing for a long time now, so they know a thing or two about separating the keepers from the ones that will ultimately age your wedding. Read on to learn about a few of the former.
Things are getting very personal.
Customizing certain decor elements with the couple’s initials isn’t exactly a new thing. However, couples are now taking that idea to whole new levels, whether it’s via a pair of big marquee letters on their sweetheart table, a projected light with their initials and perhaps some type of symbol or graphic, customized champagne glasses or edibles, a personalized floral display, etc.
The point is that we’ve officially entered the time of the personalized and one of the best parts about this trend is that you don’t really have to worry about it ultimately dating your wedding celebration. Think about it, that only happens when the trend screams of a certain time in the past, but that won’t be an issue when the trend centers on personalization.
No matter how you do it, exactly, tailoring your celebration like that will only help to make your big day more unique to your and your partner’s personalities and styles. Trust us, that will never get old.
Couples are making grander entrances than ever.
Another trend that isn’t exactly new but is being applied more and more nowadays is the wildly elaborate reception entrance. At the moment, some couples are getting pretty wild with it and that doesn’t just mean they’re doing crazy dances on their way out. It’s also about the “vehicles” they’re entering in, the decor, and the entertainment value they’re bringing to the table.
For instance, some couples are riding into their reception area on boats and others not just dancing but surprising their guests with a whole song routine complete with fog machines and confetti cannons. Then there are couples using pyrotechnics and others who enter and start their first dance behind a screen so that their guests only see their silhouettes. You get the idea.
You may also want to discuss your grand entrance with your reception venue, because they may have some kind of built-in option. It could be a gorgeous staircase that leads right to the dance floor or something more elaborate, like a glass elevator that allows you and your partner to rise right from the floor. Guests are looking up.
While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with getting extremely elaborate with your tablescapes, another thing a lot of couples are doing right now is putting less and less focus on the table itself and more on what’s above it, which, at the moment, tends to be a stunning hanging floral display.
Whether it’s some type of floral chandelier, a wreath or garland, some simple hanging flower pots, or a larger display that covers the entire dance floor or spans the length of a long banquet table, there are so many ways to put a little more focus on what’s above than what’s on the table with the food and drinks.
Just remember that, depending on the distinct approach you take to hanging florals at your wedding, it could get costly, particularly if you go with one of the more expansive displays mentioned above. So, don’t get too excited until you know which options fit your budget, unless of course you want to go the DIY route.
