We talk a lot around here about the various locations and environments that the Garden State has to offer when it comes to NJ wedding photography, but when it comes to getting uniquely beautiful pictures in Jersey, it’s hard to beat the changing seasons. Yes, some seasons can be more challenging to plan a wedding for than others, but each one has its own atmosphere and appeal.
That’s why it can be somewhat of a challenge to choose the right season for your wedding if you’re not dead set on one already. So, we thought we’d pass along a few tips and tricks we’ve picked up along the way for doing just that. Read on to learn more.
Start with comfort.
While the visual component of the weather should absolutely factor into your choice of season, it shouldn’t be the only factor, nor the primary one. No, that would be comfort, because if you and/or your partner are uncomfortable on your wedding day then trust us, the look of your surroundings won’t matter to you much.
That’s why you should start with comfort before allowing yourself to get overwhelmed when it comes to choosing the right season for your wedding. If you and/or your partner simply can’t stand the heat or humidity that could very well accompany a summer wedding, for example, or if you hate the cold, then that should knock a season off the list right off the bat.
If you don’t like either extreme, then you can stick to the spring or fall, but the point is that this will help to narrow down your choices as well as to ensure that you and your partner are calm and comfortable once your wedding day arrives. Again, while certain seasons and the colors and textures that come with them can look amazing in pictures, you won’t if you’re uncomfortable.
Understand what you’re getting into.
Let’s say that you’re completely in love with the idea of a winter wonderland wedding, whether it’s because of the mood or the way your particular venue will look in the colder months or it’s just your favorite season. Now, that’s absolutely fine, as winter weddings can be a sight to see, but you need to know all that a winter wedding entails.
For instance, that same stuff that creates that “wonderland” setting can also create some issues in terms of travel and transportation, and the same goes for other seasons depending on where you’re located. Summer and fall could mean heavy rain and winds, which could cause a problem on your wedding day.
The bottom line is that every season has its own set of concerns and potential issues. So, while that doesn’t mean that you should allow those risks to completely dictate your decision, you should have an idea of what they are, at the very least. From there, it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons.
Make your own happiness a big factor.
Yes, you should allow things like your favorite colors and moods to factor into your choice of season. The same goes for your overall vision for your wedding celebration as well as your venue. Which season best fits your vision for your big day? Which would work best with your venue to bring that vision to life?
However, before even considering any of those questions, you should ask yourself which time of year makes you naturally happiest. Do you love cozying up by the fire on a cold day more than anything else or do you wait all year to get outside and barbecue or head down to the beach?
The point is that everyone has their favorite season and while you shouldn’t let that be the sole factor in your choice for your wedding date, you shouldn’t put it at the end of your list either. Make no mistake, it could make all the difference to your ultimate wedding day experience.
We’ve been doing wedding photography in NJ long enough to know how beautiful the right season & celebration can be.
In the end, there’s always a perfect season for every wedding. It’s just that the reasons that make one season the best choice over all the rest depend on the style of celebration being planned, the theme, the venue, etc., not to mention the newlyweds-to-be themselves and their own styles and personalities.
So, don’t rush to any decisions. Give it the time and thought it deserves and remember to carefully weigh all the pros and cons. We hope these tips help. Good luck!
