Let’s face it, while there are still plenty of couples that don’t want their wedding video(s) or photos posted all over the place, which is perfectly understandable, we live in a new day and age. And some couples have embraced some of the new traditions and technologies that have come with it.
For instance, our NJ wedding videographers have been doing their thing for long enough to know that “going viral” has become a specific goal for many newlyweds-to-be when it comes to their videos. It’s just that it’s not as easy as it may sound. So, read on for a few tips if that’s something you want out of your wedding video.
1. Shoot for the stars…
First of all, you need to understand that going viral is an aspiration, a desire, but never guaranteed. No matter what you nor your videographers do on their end, there’s no surefire way to create a viral wedding video. You can do everything in your power to try, sure, but there are just so many other variables that you can’t guarantee it to happen.
There’s the timing to consider, for one thing, which is key to viral videos and then there’s your social media presence. If you have a ton of friends or followers then you’ll have a much better shot at getting your video off to a good start, but if you don’t, then it’ll be much harder to get the kinds of shares required to make a video go viral.
The point is that you don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment. Going viral is like catching lightning in a bottle and it’s not just about you and the content itself. There are other outside factors that are completely out of your control. So, just try your best and shoot for the stars. Worse comes to worst and you don’t go viral, trust us, you’ll still end up with a lot more views and shares than you would have if you didn’t.
2. Go all out with a dance number.
Every pair of newlyweds want their authentic emotions and moments from their wedding day to be enough to cause their video to go viral, and to most of them, they truly feel that they are. But the truth is that viral wedding videos usually have something else to offer besides the traditional wedding moments, no matter how emotional they are.
For example, some of the best viral wedding videos are built around a dance number, whether it’s a surprise dance with a parent, the wedding party, or all your guests or it’s just surprisingly well choreographed. Viewers just seem to love the idea of regular people like them going all out and putting in the work necessary to put together a dance like that.
You may want to get your videographers in on the act too and have them create something closer to a music video than a wedding video to really sell the dance, but the bottom line is that if you and your partner are comfortable with doing that kind of performance and are willing to put in the work to prepare, then an awesome dance could be just the thing that takes your video viral.
3. Put your own twist on tradition.
One of the other things that cause wedding videos to go viral is a unique twist on an otherwise traditional moment, whether it’s during the ceremony or reception, and it’s no surprise. After all, we’ve all seen our share of run-of-the-mill wedding videos, so when one comes along that offers something completely different, it tends to catch a lot of attention.
Think about it, we’ve all seen the traditional walk down the aisle, so if you and your partner are willing to tweak tradition a bit and do your own, customized ceremony entrances, then it could go a long way toward taking your video viral. You could dance rather than walk down the aisle, play some funny tunes for your walk, etc.
Then there’s your reception and all the traditional reception moments to consider. Your guest speeches, for example, could be the perfect time to do something a little more unique than a conventional speech, and if it’s unique enough then it could be the element that gets those shares to start piling up.
We’ve been doing wedding videography in NJ for long enough to know that “going viral” should never be the primary goal.
Again, going viral is never guaranteed, so there’s no point in putting all your eggs in that basket. But take it from us, if you do all you can to get people to watch, enjoy, and pass on your video then you’ll be happy with the results, no matter what they are.
