Yes, you want your wedding celebration to be unforgettably beautiful and emotional, and yes, you want your guests to leave feeling happy and satisfied. Of course you want those things, but according to our NY & NJ wedding videographers, that shouldn’t be your only criterion for a perfect wedding day.
So, what else should you want from your celebration? You should want your big day to speak to your and your partner’s distinct personalities and styles, that’s what. After all, if it doesn’t do that, then it’s just another wedding day, and who wants that? Check out these tips.
1. If you’re not doing personal vows, write personal letters.
One of the best ways to make your wedding day more personal is to recite personal vows in your ceremony. Everyone’s eyes and ears will be on you and your spouse-to-be, so it’s a perfect time to bring them all in closer to your personal journey and love story.
For some tips on that, check out this post, Tips for Writing Your Own Wedding Vows, but if you and your partner prefer the traditional route when it comes to your vows, then our veteran videographers recommend writing personal letters for one another instead.
That way, you two can read them aloud separately, or have someone else do so if you don’t think you’ll be able to keep it together, and your videographers can capture the act. We’ve been doing wedding videography in NJ for years and trust us, it’ll ultimately make the story of your big day that much more personal, and memorable.
2. Embrace your old pictures, for once.
We’ve all been there. You have company over or you bring some friends over to your childhood home and, at some point, without fail, the old photo albums are brought out and everyone gathers around to peruse them and embarrass you.
It’s usually something most of us try to avoid, but when it comes to making your wedding celebration more personal and unique, there are few things more effective than old pictures of you and your partner in your respective childhoods.
In fact, you may want to get pictures from throughout the years so that you can showcase both of your journeys which led you together, but the point is, whether you line the ceremony aisle with them, put them up on your wedding reception board, etc., old photos will inherently make things more personal.
One last tip: You can take this concept to the next level by sending guests blank RSVP cards beforehand and asking them for some type of creative reply—like an old photo for example—which you can then weave into your wedding reception board or wherever else you’ll be displaying your family photos.
3. Make your drinks personal.
Creating a signature cocktail for your big day is another awesome way to make the festivities a little more personal and memorable. It is a wedding, after all, and chances are that plenty of guests will be knocking back a few.
So, it only makes sense to provide them with an original beverage option which somehow ties back in with either your styles and personalities or with that of the celebration you’ve planned.
For some tips on coming up with a fun name for your personalized drink, check out this post, 4 Tips for Creating Clever Names for Your Signature Wedding Cocktails, but the bottom line is that customized cocktails make things both fun and personal.
When you’ve been in wedding videography in NJ for as long as we have, you know how to get personal.
There are plenty more ways to make your wedding day more unique to you and your partner’s distinct styles and personalities. It really just depends on how clever you want to get with your customization.
